Mark Rothko, Untitled (Violet Stripe), 1956, 60 X 35 ¾ Inches, Signed “Mark Rothko” on reverse

A rarely seen Rothko scanned from the David Anfram Catalog, “Violet Stripe” was on loan to the Princeton Art Museum in the 80′s until it was destroyed by fire on the Los Angeles freeway in 1990, while being transported in a moving van.

Art Comparison:

Katsushika Houksai (Japanese, 1760?-1849), Plum Blossoms and Moon, 1803.

Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890), Almond Blossom, 1890.

As an aside, if you ever see yellow, tan, red,or other colored versions of the Van Gogh here, rest assured they are not his paintings, but interpretations by other artists.
